Georgiana first joined the SpeechEase team as an Allied Health Assistant in our Mackay clinic while completing her studies. The time she spent getting to know the warm and supportive team made making the decision to join our New Graduate Kickstart Program a no brainer. With each client the team enthusiastically introduced Georgiana to as an AHA, the more welcomed and excited she felt about becoming a fully-fledged Speech Pathologist and working in the clinic full-time.
After making the leap into the Speech Pathology world after graduation (complete with graduation balloons and flowers galore!) Georgiana started to discover what it was really like being a speechie. Her biggest takeaway? Having 1:1 and group supervision is an essential. At SpeechEase, Georgiana found the “Best Start” new grad group supervision program helpful for brainstorming ideas and building confidence.
Another part of being a new grad at SpeechEase that really stood out to Georgiana was the gradual caseload increase. It makes the transition to a full case load so much more manageable, and in Georgiana’s words she ‘never felt like she was being chucked in the deep end’.
“Looking back to when I started as a new graduate Speech Pathologist just over a year ago, I can see that I’ve grown so much in my clinical skills and confidence. I have also discovered a love for working with older clients and recently had the opportunity to complete voice therapy with two older clients with Parkinson’s disease.”
